EVENT A - Calving of a glacier in water
Based on Empty valley from event D. Ilulissat is not suitable as it is only possible to show a small part of the model on the 16:9 screen.

New intro part which shows a glacier flowing into a fjord - snow falls inland. Camera zooms in to show the glacier. This model is to be used for event B
  1. Main part of glacier rests on seafloor but front floats in water
  2. Crevasses in surface cuts deeper - water level in crevasses increases (only shown partially)
  3. Calving occurs - according to video clip
  4. Glacier moves forward to previous position and gets thinnes
  5. Crevasses get deeper (because glacier front stretches forward)
  6. Calving occurs - falling into pieces and rotate

Status - Finished.

EVENT B - Comparison of two different fjord geometrics
Based on the Jakobshavn model. Orientation as shown.
Same model as Event A

Warm current in fjord
  1. Front of glacier blocked by seaice?
  2. Warm current moving into fjord
  3. Glacier melting from below
  4. Glacier moves forward and gets thinner
  5. Crevasses get deeper
  6. Calving occurs

Fjord blocked by "isfjeldbanke" preventing warm sea water from entering fjord

Same as "1" above but with "isfjeldbanke" blocking mouth of fjord ?

Status: in progress... I'm not happy with this one....

EVENT C1 - Sudden discharge of subglacial lake - resulting in collapse of glacier surface ?

Based on Koni's glacier animation. New animation. Orientation as in Koni's animation.
  1. I'm not sure how you want to start this animation?
  2. ?????? a subglacial lake forms beneath the ice behind some kind og blockage... (ice, or rocks/soil?) ? or potential weakness in the glacier, where does the water come from ?
  3. Subglacial lake it it's peak - full.
  4. Water breaks through blockage, emptying lake and ice surface collapse creating a hollow/depression (forbybning) in the surface.

Original storyboard
1. Zoom to 2 2. 3. 4.

EVENT C2 - Role played by Moulins

Based on Koni's glacier animation. New animation. Orientation as in Koni's animation.
  1. Spring/summer the heat melts snow and ice on the surface of the glacier. Melting water runns across the surface towards the tounge of the glacier through a Moulin and under the glacier
  2. Melting water lubricates and lifts the glacier thereby speeding up the movement of the glacier.
  3. The Water makes its way to the front of the glacier where it enters the sea - below water level.

STATUS: To be used as it is.

EVENT D - Creation of an Elephant foot glacier
(Romersø glacier)

Purpose of animation is to show flow dynamics og ice...
  1. The photo of a glacier - small front
  2. The front of the glacier
  3. The ice breaks through and forms the elephant foot
  4. Photo of the glacier - big front

Jakob has photographs of this glacier from 1995.

Status - Finished.
NOTE: Make a nes version tith blue sky and double contrast on landscape!

EVENT E - Greenland Ice cap map
  1. Ice moving from the centre of Greenland to the main channels, Helmeim, Jakobshavn, 79 Fjord and ? glacier
  2. Sea-ice surrounding greenland dissapears - show Greenland topography with ice removed and without seafloor rising
  3. The Ice sheel melts and the bedrock rises

Status: Finished.

It would be nice if we could get correct data to make a morealistic melting if the ice cap...

EVENT E - Greenland map - Cross section

Cross section across Greenland from Ilulissat on the west coast across the island to the east coast. Shows why there is more glacial activity along the weat coast of Greenland.
  1. Cross section through Greenland showing thickness of ice cap
  2. Remove inland ice
  3. Bedrock rise after removing ice cap

Note: If you want to show what happens with the main glaciers, it may be more illustrative to show a cross section through one of them instead...
